UA Combat Question

Postby neoshadow_xxx » Fri Mar 16, 2012 4:25 pm

What would you guys recommend for fighting stats(attributes, skills, and incrementable skills) for each animal. I can punch out foxes relatively well with 22 str, 22 con 52 UA 19 agility. I was wondering mainly when i could start taming animals adn fighting boars.

EDIT: Any strategies would be welcomed as well.

It's not so much about your stats but what combat skills you've purchased and how well you know how to use them. If you know what you're doing, you can kill a bear with 10 UA and 10 STR. (The lowest I've heard is around 40 UA, I think, and not sure of MC and str/agi.) Otherwise, more is better.

FYI, at 54, you should be able to kill a boar if you've purchased all the combat skills. I suggest carrying a sword and using chop or cleave to finish (or sting if you have a sword). Chasing boars sucks if you don't need to.

How can you kill a bear with 10UA and 10STR and 10MC? With sling yes, in melee I doubt. Even 40 seems way too low.
If you have all skills for fighting you should be ok with:
15 for ants
40 for fox
70-80 to be safe for boar
around 100 for deer
and 120+ for bear but you should have some more just to be sure if you are still learning.
I have never fought troll so I can't be sure, but some says around 400.

Don't forget about leveling your agility as well, it is more important stat than it looks on first sight. More agility you have, more efficient you will be and faster moves.

It's a bit of a bug exploit (feature exploit?) but call thunder to build IP, OK a couple times, sting... repeat until dead. Make sure to use a lakeside shallows so the bear can't actually reach you. I'm not the one that first published the technique, but I've fallen in love with it. Beats standing around like an idiot with a sling or bow and then chasing them down. You should, in theory, be able to do it with 10, but so far I'm not sure anyone has tried (and I just don't feel like being the first on this).

Otherwise, OP, just read Dataslycer's combat guide stickied in this forum. He gives basic rundowns on how to fight each of the animals and the required skills and levels.

It should be more like:
15 for ants
40-50 for fox
90-100 for boar
120 for deer
180 + for bear
And you shouldn't UA a troll. Block its way so it cannot get to you and either build lots of IP, do opportunity knocks till it has 0 defence and just punch/sting it till its dead or range it.

Read this, its a very good guide, and will be well enough to get you started and keep you safe:

http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6518

Stat aren't much into play really, you do see the difference between a 20 str and agi toon and 60+ one when you fight deers since you have to hit hard and fast to kill them, but honestly your ua against their ua is what combat is about mostly as well as your player skill. Also the best is when you have some decent ua like 120/150 is to take some melee and a sword, it really help a lot since sword make a lot of damage and will make all your fight like 5time quicker.
And when you start fighting animals, really always have some back up in case of a lag pocket (a house, a boat or a river you can swim across), even with a good fighter and knowing the combat well i sometime need to flee because of lag pockets if they happen in a middle of a dangerous stance.

Possible, but very very risky as if bear only hit you once you will kiss the ground. And I don't count that as valid combat as it is exploiting or at least some kind of "ranged" combat.

Lowest I did it with was 25. Dat rage mode makes it quite scary though.

also with deer I've noticed that if you are standing at a certain angle they wont fight back. this has happened to me twice now

If you make deer flee and they comeback it will stop attacking you in general.
