Is there any hope for a hermit?

Postby ArtemisGray » Tue Mar 20, 2012 6:41 am

Hello. I played for a month or two in world 5. I've just started playing again.

I joined a village early in my H&H career so I know little about surviving for long on my own.

I've got a claim and nearly the resources to construct a palisade wall, but I'm slightly iffy about doing it. I will, but I'm curious about something.

Is a palisade going to make my home more likely to be destroyed? I know that sounds kinda silly but what I mean is are people more likely to try get into my settlement if they see a palisade wall around it? even small?

Do many players do that? raid small hermits homes?

I've also noticed I'm sorta near an area that has been claimed by a village called "Dis". I briefly saw something about them on the forums claiming a ridiculous amount of land that isn't really near their village. But does anyone know if that village's residents are prone to bashing down hermits walls for fun?

Just curious is all.

Thanks.

A palisade will always make you safer, don't worry.

Some people do raid newbies but it's pretty dangerous to leave scents around large factions. Make trade partners in Dis and be good friends with your neighbors and raiding you will be a dangerous game.

Thanks. That's a good idea.

Also, how big should my palisade be?

I was thinking about as big as the blue wall I've drawn on the screenshot. Would this be too small for me after a while? or too big?

Just want an opinion

Measure out where you want your farm to be. Make sure to include a bit of room for expansion for some livestock and a tree farm in the future. Now walk out from the edge another 50 tiles. That's where you want the edge of your pali to be at. This prevents anyone sneaking up on you and shooting you while you're out farming or tending the cattle. Typically, I build 80x80 to 150x150 depending on if I plan on strictly playing by myself or if my brother or a couple others will be joining me.

Thank you, I was going to make my farm near where my claim totem was, but I realize that is probably far too small an area.

50 tiles? that's a lot bigger than I was thinking, but I imagine it's a good idea in the long run.

Cheers.

Bring humans skeletons to your palisade and set runestone with message: "You are welcome! =)"

I think that might entice a more skilled player to think "This guy thinks hes the shit huh?"

>Steals all my stuff

"Lol thx for the gear bruh."
