Snaking question

If I want to start a snaking tunnel, do I need to begin a tunnel on a safe tile such as a wall or a tile under a support's radius?

The page you gave me doesn't answer my question, just tells me the concept of snaking, not starting a snaking under what may be hazardous condition otherwise. For example if I mined out a silver vein, I want tocontinue to snake or change direction with a support as diagonal snaking seems unsafe at most.

And what I am looking for really is confirmation and additional information that may be crucial from experienced snakers as the information I got is actually through forum search.

You should start the pattern underneath the mine support. If you try to mine a tile outside of a support which is covering a cleared out area, you'll cause a cave-in.
