Bows

Postby rollinggun73 » Sat Aug 25, 2012 7:54 am

I wanted to try to kill a deer the other day with my sling, but the deer kept running off and healing. I'm stuck at killing only bears, boars, and foxes right now. Do I need a bow to kill a deer, and what mm do I need to handle one. My mm is currently 60 and my perception is 23.

if you can try to raise your perception

killing deer with low mm/perc is more luck than anything. try to lure it away from other deer (they heal each other), and fence it in, then just get a full inv of stones and fire like mad

to take care of a deer with a bow, a Q40' bow minimum with equivalent arrows should do the trick if you've got the patience to perhaps wait for the perfect shot.

Using a sling, if it's a high enough quality you should be able to kill a deer quite easily with your marksmanship.

Unless you can get access to a Q100+ bow or sling (probably via trade threads), it's really just a patience game.

Afaik deers don't destroy signs when fleeing - so it's best to fence them in before you aggro them (correct me pls if i'm wrong)

Also if you do a higher fire rate with sling you might overcome the deers healing rate as long as it's a single one only (1 shot - green aimmeter+ 2 shots - yellow and so on ... best is using hotkey to start aiming fast again after shooting and use the deer avatar for target...)

Would a q51 sling be enough to kill a deer?

Yes, with your stats that should be possible. It's not particularly easy; ideally you have a boat and a river handy, fence in all but one deer, aggro that one and lead it along the river bank (boat away, jump out and stand on the shore until you see the deer charging towards you, jump back in boat, repeat), then kill the deer once it's far enough from its friends that they can't heal it. Then repeat as required.

Given the ridiculous lag, which makes twitch hunting harder, it may even be worth breaking combat with the lone deer then fencing it in too, to stop it from running away.

you don't need to jump out of boat to lure it - just go with boat to shore...

also you can use CdT for luring...

As far as I know deers can brake wooden crates, barrels and even chicken coops when fleeing! Was an absolute pain when one destroyed a coop full of chickens! (all died/disappeared except one or two chicken corpses :( plus items and contents fly everywhere!)

not 100% sure about posting signs though, but one would assume so...
