Blocked Logs

Postby puppetlance » Sat Jun 08, 2013 7:17 pm

My friend is new to the game ive played before but never was dumb enough to do such a thing, obviously when cutting a tree it goes East ish when falling, I told her not to do it near a cliff and she cut it down anyways saying she "knew what she was doing"
So it fell over the cliff and i really need to remove it as its hard to get the things that are under it now.

Impossible. It sucks if you have OCD like me, but it is what it is. Remember this if you erect a wall then want to remove a tree nearby, logs sticking through walls are worse.

But look at it this way, you probably want to remove all trees near your camp that aren't going to be inside your walls otherwise somebody could use them to shield a ram or sniper.

Coming to think about it this could be easily avoided by having the option to choose wether if the log should fall East or West.

It should fall on the opposite side to where you are, and damage anything under it, excluding walls.

"Which way does a tree fall? A tree falls the way it's leaning." - The Lorax

Internet myth caused by video game woodcutting. Trees fall in the same path no matter which side you cut them unless they're perfectly straight (which basically no tree is).

actually if you notch the tree on 1 side then chop from the other you can cause a tree to fall in the opposite direction of the way its leaning...trees always fall to the side they're notched...

the notch of course is the chop on 1 side that looks like a 7, you chop on the opposite side above that notch in a pattern that looks like an upside down 7 and once enough of the material on that side has been removed to weaken the tree enough to break it does.

@Arcanist why not walls?

Well, I was thinking that it would be a cheap way to dammage a brick wall. But after thinking a bit more about it, if a tree does 25% dammage to a bwall, then all the owner has to do is repair the wall, and it would take atleast 4-8 weeks to destroy a brick wall this way

unless there are 4 trees really close to each other and damage spreads to tiles near the tile hit...but 25% to a BW is alot

and yes if the land owner is active theres no way a few trees being chopped onto his walls are going to break the walls. it takes a while to replant/grow trees, and you can't grow them too close to walls or you'll stunt their growth...
