Is the gender acquired when taming Mouflons random or not?

Postby naosnule » Sun Jun 23, 2013 9:15 pm

So I expected the gender distribution to be about even, but when I tried to tame a heard, 9 out of 9 mouflons turned into male sheep. There is one last mouflon left in the heard, but I am kind of guessing that it won't be female.

So what is your experience when taming mouflons? Is it supposed to be that darn hard to get a female, aka ewe?

Edit: (Update) 10 our of 10 were male in the heard. Assuming equal probability distribution of females of males, the chance for this to happen is 1 in 1000; i.e. 0.1% chance.

I am thus drawing the conclusion that there is literally a homosexual mechanic involved or a such bug.

You're just unlucky. It's completely random.
Hope you have a great day

Assuming 50% chance to get any gender, the chance of getting 9 of same gender out of 9 tries is 0.20%.

Either this is extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemely unlucky or there is a bug involved that made whole herd roll one gender rather than individually.

Mind linking to that thread? Or do you mean discussion outside of the forum?

think it's somewhere here at forums hidden between all the chatter - but i'm not up to look for it...

random is a good answer in my opinion

Don't forget that the game is programmed in Java, known for having a pretty shitty RNG.

Random + bad random number gen = Runs of probability that are a little too common.

(Shoot me if I'm wrong at least, I remember being told the server is in java)

I've had 8 male cows in a row ala W5. This world we got perfect pairs when taming. Seems pretty random to me.

Haha yeah I figured I was gonna make a dumb with that statement.

Either way: Computer random programs are usually pretty shit. Unlikely strings of chance tend to happen a little more often than they do in real life.

well its not unlikely, it just seems that way with common thinking...with a RNG, and a 50% chance you generate a number then take the modulus(divide by howver many options you have then ignore everything except the remainder). so if the RNG spits out an odd number you have choice B(male) if the RNG spits out an even number its choice A(female). so even though it seems unlikely(like flipping a coin and getting heads 10 straight times) its actually a much grander thing behind the scenes so its not the same thing using RNG with 2 options and flipping a coin even though they're both 50/50's.

closest thing I can think of to compare it is more like a roulette wheel(ignore the 0 and 00) odds of hitting red or black 10 straight times are more likely than flipping a coin and getting heads or tails 10 straight times but they're both still at even odds...
