Visibility

Postby Westr70 » Fri Aug 23, 2013 4:09 pm

So a buddy of mine got killed at his gate with an arrow. He said he was watchful when he was leaving. Assuming he was watchful, what's the maximum distance that an archer can fire at you? Are there skills that would allow you to increase your own ability to see an archer to lessen the chance of an ambush? On a related question the wiki says stealth is mostly about obscuring your tracks if a ranger is tracking you. Is that it or does it also mean it increases your ability to sneak up on someone?

Thanks.

There is no "maximum" range on fire from ranged weapons. Visual range is an 81x81 square centered on the player's location.

edit: forgot about using the party portrait to aim on. Oops.

you can be shot from anywhere.

If you been aggroed by someone and hes walking outside the radar range(51x51 tiles) he can aim @you by Co[M]bat > S[H]oot and clicking on your portrait in the aggro menu, and it will keep on aiming until you go into a house.

Everyones render distance is the same, however, i'm assuming your friend was using the default client and couldn't see the full render distance (i can't really think of a way to explain this). No stats effect the render distance. viewtopic.php?f=27&t=14575 is the thread for enders client and i'd highly recommend downloading it if for no other reason then to not get sniped. Also, if someone starts to aim at you with a bow, they can strafe off screen by holding ctrl and clicking. All i can recommend for that is making yourself and your friend some armor and always be paying attention when you're outside.

bmjclark: I'm assuming he was using Enders as I do. So that means that he could/should have seen the raider?

HasseKebab: Does that work for hunting too?
I would assume that to be aggroed he'd have to be in visual range first?

Interesting information. Thanks you all.

The reason I asked is that when a boar gets enough hits he takes off. But if you can continue to hit his portrait then he can't get away?

you can, but movement reduces your aim by a lot so it would be pretty much impossible to hit a boar running away.

the best thing to do is to chase it and punch it. it wont attack if its fleeing and you do decent damage with a bear cape at least

Yup, but if he looked away and the raider was quick he could of started to aim and walked off the screen before your friend saw him.
