Tracking stolen seed scents?

Postby a63ntorange » Sun Jan 12, 2014 10:07 pm

Just curious if anyone can help me out, I found an abandoned claim with no walls, and id like to pilfer the seeds he had growing in his farm by harvesting. Can anyone tell me if the theft scents are trackable for those seeds only, if i replant them? Thanks.

The idea is that YOU leave scents, not the seeds themselves. It will last 2,5 days after you take em, doesnt matter waht you do with em, the scents will lead to the thief and or his hf ;)

check if the claim is 30 days old and try to bash the pclaim, if u can bash it you leave 1 trespassing scent for 8 hours.

If you are interested in the seeds, they must be nice Q?, you need to harvest them with a char with higher farming than the seeds for them to keep their Q, so you will risk a nice farmer making it leave vandal scents?, I dont think it is a good deal.
If the seeds are low Q, not at all worth loosing a char, unless you work out a vandal char and dont care to loose it by being summoned. Better to get wild windsom weeds and dry them in a nice herbalist table that lifts their Q, instead than in a rack that keeps the Q from the original www.

So for doing this getting the nice Q seeds, it is nice Brams idea. For bashing the pclaim u need a char with at least 100 str and make it use an axe, so u only leave one tresspasing scent when u get into the claim. If you use a ram to bash the claim I think you will leave vandal scents, but this im not sure.

Or if you have a Vidol you can trade for seeds, most traders accept bears for payment, and not all seeds are worth so much as to pay for them, so you can make a mix from seeds gotten from www and buy flax or hemp for fibers (hemp also is nice for buds, but flax can be higher Q), grapes for wine, cheese and jewellery and maybe carrots, that is if you want high Q wax.

Good luck and welcome to the game!. :D

Edit: I forgot, seeds Q drops if they are not harvested, so if the claim has been abandoned for long time they must be totally outdated.
Another one, u say an abandoned claim, but you do not say if it is pclaim or Vclaim?. I think idols can be bashed easily when they have low authority, and if they have low auth we dont leave scents when harvesting/destroying/etc. I think it is when auth drops below 50k.

In the wiki u can find usefull info: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Haven_and_Hearth_Wiki

what you need to note is that harvesting is considered to be the act of vandalizing the farm, NOT of stealing seeds.
(if you drop the harvested seeds on the ground and pick it up, or if you take seeds out of containers, that will be "theft".)
thus, the scent you will be leaving on an active claim by harvesting would be "vile vapor of vandalism" which lasts 4 days, instead of "reek of theft" which lasts 2 days and extra.

Where did you get this information? I have had a feeling that this is the case, but never tested it. I've told a few people that and they laughed at me.

Also, do you know the time periods involved? How much of a drop over what period of time? And, do you know if different crops are affected differently?

I was away for 3 wks and did notice a drop in my wheat q when I harvested on my return, it went down by 4/5 q, no other crops were affected in this way so I kept thinking I must have been mistaken. It has been bugging me ever since.

Thanks for the replies guys, I really dont think I posed my question properly but I believe i got the answer anyways for your posts. What I was making sure of, is if I use a disposable alt, with just the thieving skills trained, would planting the seeds i harvested in any way lead a ranger to my claim, if my alts hearth fire is nowhere near it? Im just having issues getting certain seeds and I believe I have harvested and tabled like 100 + www and still have yet to get them. This farm has everything I need, and with my Soil Q the quality is kinda irrelevant as after 2-3 harvests it will be high again, well high for me that is.

Also I tried bashing his claim it told me this property is owned by someone, I guess that means it hasn't been 30 days yet? Please confirm if you can. Also I tried to use a pickaxe, not a sledge or axe, if that effected it.

The planted seeds are fine, the vandalism scents would lead to the alts hf.

Yes, it hasn't been 30 days yet and the claim is still considered active.

Edit:

I mean after you step onto the claim and right click on the claim stick - just realised from Borka posting that I wasn't clear enough. :)
The actual claim perimeter will always say that regardless of inactivity.
