No attacks, no bone saw?

I am very confused. Whenever I try to punch a critter (be it toad, rat, or ant) it does nothing. I've tried everything (using slide, using jump, equipping/unequipping items, waiting forever between punches or not at all) and still nothing.
Help!

Also, my bone saw doesn't give me an option to cut logs into boards when I click on them.

Hunting, yes. Carpentry, no.

to make boards you'll need carpentry.

To punch an animal, click in your menu, combat > attacks > punch

Your cursor will then turn into a sword icon.

You then need to left click on a kritter, you will agro them, and your character will walk towards them.

Thanks, now I've got the boards all figured out; however, the fighting still isn't working. I was doing that before too - it's like he's just swinging at the air over their heads instead or something. No visible damage is done.

The blue bar doesn't go down at all like I said, nothing happens
