What trees should I bother raising in QL

Postby Rhakar » Sat May 31, 2014 8:38 pm

Other than the obvious Mulberry trees?

Which tree is "best" for high q Boards, as in most logs? Also, which, regardless of how many logs it gives (you can just plant more trees) has the fastest rate of maturing?

Also, with the tree quality formula having a +2/-5 spread, can someone use math magic and tell me how many trees I should plant each generation to have a very high chance of getting at least one +2?

If you plant 2 trees you have a 7/32 chance of getting a +2 q tree.
You are twice as likely to get a +1q or better tree.
To have a high-ish chance to get a +2q tree, planting 5 could be enough, but it won't mean you WILL get one.
I know nothing of tree planting, correct me if i'm wrong ;)
Mr. Boar doesn't like you....

Yew is best for growth speed and logs (it has the same growth as furs)

Raise apple trees too.

So you need 2 areas on the opposate sides of your base, one for apple/mulberry
The other for yew.

I'd recomend you buy a few high q seeds, waith until those grow up, then plant all the trees you are able to.

But doesn't it take like a week to get apples refreshed on trees?

Pumpkin pies are easier to mass produce + milk is also spent on cheese. So it depends where your priorities lie.
If you have everything set up for mass cheese, then gouda could be easier to produce too.

sometimes more.

So you have 50+ trees for 250 pies / week

Whatever trees you find a use for. :)

Birch is good if you're in a coniferous area to help convert some areas to broadleaf terrain so mulberry and apple grows faster, and birch bark can be useful for bark boats. It also grows quickly for general lumber.
Fir is good for general purpose; boughs can be useful. Pine can be useful for a lot of leather making but if you have enough high quality trees of other types you might not need the bark from the pine, and they do grow so slowly.
Yew is great for log production.
Apple and Mulberry for their obvious reasons; I also like a Hazelnut tree around for when I feel like Crepe Noisette.

Elm, Maple, and Oak are mainly cosmetic.
Hearthlings: Marona; Chamberlain (retainer alt), Vincavec (shaman of the Dryad Wells Forest)
