Palisade up, what next?

Postby Cygnus » Thu Dec 11, 2014 8:23 am

I've raised my palisade and hopefully will finish the whole wall today with a gate.

I was just asking, what should I do after raising a palisade. Should I get a minehole? And what is the best source of curios?

Foraging is a good source of curios, but if you've got a palisade, you might prefer crafting, which is also a good source of them! If you grow trees and crops and chickens, you'll be able to make several kinds. If you find metal, you can make a lot more. A palisade can't keep out most nosy explorers and casual thieves, but it won't stop serious raiders, so you probably do want metal so you can build a brick wall for heavy security (and a lot of other benefits... metal is very useful!)

So, 'get metal' seems like the best idea, and a mine hole is most likely the best way to do that. Mining is pretty complicated, though, and there can be cave-ins and trolls (the green kind), so be careful.

I already can get bars of metal, but only soft ones which is tin. Hopefully I'll be able to up my exploration to the point of finding rustroot and feldspar. If not I will have to get my neighbor to come help me. Then hopefully find a minehole that can provide me with hard metal to get started making tiny abacuses. From there just improve their quality and get started on steelmaking.

You need to get a brickwall up as soon as possible (it will take way more time and work than the palisade).
So you will need someone to mine, while a second person focuses on the clay digging and brick building, while keeping the village provided with food and materials.

mine hole if u prospect some ores.
Best soruces of curios is all sources of curios. the question isn't, what curio is better? The question is, how many DIFFERENT kinds of curios can you shove into your study box.
For example, glimmermoss is worth shit on market, same with straw doll ,but those are very potent curios. Why? Because curios are not weighed by how much LP/h they give, they're weighed by their rarity, because you never put curios 1 by 1, you put them all in.

What's the best 'bang for buck' curios you could get?

http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Curiosity

sort by LP/weight/hour until you get enough INT to shove whatever you want in without worrying about it, then size can matter, too. Don't forget to adjust for quality as a q40 curio is 2x better than the same at q10. Don't forget that time not studying is wasted time, so a 1 hr curio just before you log off leaves you with 19 dead hours (assuming you play 4 hrs a day). I'm using a pearl as an example, but same goes for any of the curios. If you have long gaps of dead time, an 8 hr curio that is 2x the value of a 16 hr curio really isn't any more valuable.

Thus, "What's the best bang for the buck" is very dependent on what you can get, what you can use, and what your play style is.

I've sent you a pm with the co-ords of two unclaimed mineshafts near to you, I'm pretty certain they both have iron but one may be copper, it's been awhile since I was there, anyway it will get you started on the materials for b/wall construction.
