Will I get my ass handed to me by a cow?

Postby CG62 » Thu Dec 24, 2009 9:25 pm

Riddle me this: Just how difficult are cows and sheep to tame? I've grown bored of the life of a fisherman/farmer, and I suppose that keeping some humping cows would be a nice change of pace.

I'm a terrible combatant. I can't even come close to killing the Lv. IV and Vs around me

I don't know why, but I always seem to forget I still have CG62, a competent-enough Archer.

I s'pose I'll bug out from Innsmouth and try to get to a grassland or something.

Does he have unarmed or melee? You want to be able to dodge attacks, not necessarily kill things well.

UA, like 15 or so.

Also, CG62's fucked. Stuck at 100% TW in a gate-less Innsmouth. FUUUUU-

You'll be better with low UA. If it's higher, you actually hit them while trying to build up all the ini points you need to subdue them... and they die. :(

I've killed entire herds of Ram just trying to subdue a single one. And then if you do manage to get a few tame points on one and walk away with it, you lose all the ini you had (combat ends) and have to start combat with it again, which means punching it to build up ini... and this has to be repeated 5 times until it's tamed. So the chance of animal death greatly increases.

Alternatively, your skills are too low so YOU are the one getting hit and they'll gang rape you to KO in seconds. Armour fixes that.

Of course, that's also assuming the server doesn't crash right in the middle of it all. :/

At the moment, the trick seems to be using bugs and extorting the system to make it work. Half-finished fences of fires; n00bie alts with no skills and plate armour so they don't hit (builds up INI) but will survive being attacked and other tricks. And you need to know and understand the combat system which is actually a good thing. All the "Consume the Flames; Opportunity Knocks" stuff comes in handy.

Oh yeah and you can only walk them back to Village so if the meadow you're at is across river from your village, tough luck. NO DOMESTICATED ANIMALS FOR YOU!

/Wishes for non-lethal combat option.

You put WAY too much work into this DU.

Just kill them all except one and have a frog or rat or three in your inventory. If you don't gain any init killing the herd off, then you can use no pain no gain on the last one to gain two init points and opknock from there (repeat npng if you fail the first opknock). Using meditation will prevent combat intensity from rising. Once you have accumulated enough init, drop the frog, aggro it, tame the sheep. Opknock the frog while you are waiting for the sheep/cow to buck again. Then you can quickly sidestep/quell before the animal even has a chance to gain init to change balance on you.

Also, loftar has promised that teleportation with leashed animals will be possible in the future.

In my naiveté, I was hoping I'd be able to capture all of them. :) That setup actually worked quite well at making them come out one by one too but yeah, that entire herd ended up dead with my feeble attempts to tame.

And damn, didn't even think about a Frog. We had thought having another person nearby to keep the tamer in combat. Thanks for the idea.

As a general comment (jorb, loftar?), that does seem like an exploit and killing an entire herd to tame one seems a bit much. Why can't we just wrestle them with ropes with an off-chance they'll escape and run away if you mess it up but bite and scratch back (IE: still hit you) as you're trying?

That'll be nice. Also, lifting tame animals should be possible. Then you could stuff 2 in a boat / 4 in a cart and easily trade them.

I'm the last to make a realism argument but that is REALLY pushing suspension of disbelief.
