Dowsing Rods and Wells

Postby Kazemi » Sun Feb 07, 2010 11:24 pm

I'm trying to use a Dowsing Rod to find water and (given you guys are the only ones I've seen so far), decided I should verify information to update the Wiki page. Here's what I've noticed:

1) Dowsing rod radar goes off about once every 30s. This makes finding water long and tedious.
2) The direction the pie slice is facing will change periodically. Perhaps it points towards the water?
3) Pie slice shrinks as you get closer to the water (given from the wiki).

The direction pie is no damn use. I can NEVER figure out how to get it to work. I think it is bugged. *folds arms sulkily*

Dowse in daylight so you can see. Just stroll along holding the rod and keep looking at the ground and ignoring those silly red flashes anyway. Eventually you will see a kind of light blue circle on the ground which is the size of one tile. That's what the flash/pie direction thing was supposedly helping you find. Put the well there.

Well points don't disappear the way blue berries do. If you find one and forget to mark it, it will still be there when you come back with the rod.

Look near high q plants and herbs to find high q soil which is where high q water seems to also appear. If you find a q27 blueberry it is time to pay close attention. You are on to something good and could be on to something better if you search in a circular pattern.

Seriously though, I do think the system is bugged or something. I once tested it by locating a well and standing close to it to see what the flashing pie thing told me. I was trying to figure out how to interpret the pie direction. And it told me completely different things when it flashed, even though I stayed standing on the exact same spot. None of the flashes clearly pointed to the well spot six tiles away.

If you are updating the wiki you might want to thoroughly test the system so you can figure out how to explain it to someone like me. It's related to the ranging system where you track down criminals, so I find it hard to believe it is broken and yet that was the only conclusion I could come up with.

Yeah, that was what I was planning to do, but first I have to find the well >.< I'm just hoping I didn't inadvertently pave over the spot...

ive used the dowsing rod effectivly but i think it throws you off by pointing twards other wells farther away or sending you in the wrong direction to make live difficult. and yes if you find a high quality herb its best yto remember the spot and dows for a sighn of water because good water takes less hunger when drinking and ect. mainly higher q is better everything lol.

unless it changed recently, dowsing rods point you straight to the nearest untapped water source (which shows up as a blue puddle) that you can build a well on

if the direction changes that means you moved far enough away that a different one is now closer

Actually, I keep getting the direction to change when it's a relatively small piece of pie. I don't even walk that far and it just flips around to the opposite side.
