Herbs, mines, and more questions

Postby Bladekill990 » Wed Feb 10, 2010 5:21 am

I just started and I'm still pretty noob, but I have a few questions:
[answered] 1) Where can I find Inkweed? I've searched multiple grasslands multiple times with 15-20 Exploration and found nothing.
[answered] 2) Do I need prospecting/rustroot extract to find a mine or do they just make it easier?
[answered] 3) What do mines look like? >.<
[answered] 4) How can I find myself (I accidentally spawned in wilderness and didn't want to restart when I found I could spawn in a town)?
5) How high agility (roughly) do I need to be able to travel to Brodgar (assuming I'm not on the map)?
[answered] 7) How high Marksmenship (roughly) do I need to kill a level VI fox with a sling (around q12)
[answered] 8) Can I remove cobblestone? If so, how?
[self-answered ;p] 9) Roughly how much health do I need to tame a cow/sheep?
[answered] 10) Do I need to tame a cow to get Cow Hide?
[answered (unless there is some sort of trick)] 11) How can I capture those elusive winds? For some reason I can't select them even with stormchasing =S.
[answered ;p] 12) Why is there no number 6? ;p.

Keep looking. It is a pale blue flower, hard to see and not too common anyway. I have found it both on grasslands and on moor. (the yellow lands)
2) Do I need prospecting/rustroot extract to find a mine or do they just make it easier?
Prospecting and rustroot are needed to find an undiscovered mine. If someone else has found it you might stumble on it. I've found at least four mines started by someone else and then abandoned and left unclaimed and unguarded.
3) What do mines look like? >.<
It looks like a big hole in the ground with a ladder going down. That is after someone builds it at a mining point.
4) How can I find myself (I accidentally spawned in wilderness and didn't want to restart when I found I could spawn in a town)?
Get someone who is at Brodgar (the center of the world) to join party with you and click on the coloured box that shows them as a party member. You will start walking in their direction. This will tell you where you are in relationship to the center of the world, but not how far away. Get someone else who knows where they are to party with you so you know what direction they are in. Triangulate.
5) How high agility (roughly) do I need to be able to travel to (the town you can travel to who's name eludes me)?
It depends on how far out you are. 50 in agility would get you about a grid and half, no problem, but would not get you from the outer ring in. I think the town you mean is Brodgar.
7) How high Marksmenship (roughly) do I need to kill a level VI fox with a sling (around q12)
I'm going to guess 15 to 20. I can do a bear easily enough with a q14 sling at Marksman skill 50.
8) Can I remove cobblestone? If so, how?
Plant grass on it.
9) Roughly how much health do I need to tame a cow/sheep? (I have all the moves so I can get the instant 2 Init + and lower intensity to 0)
Don't know. Someone else will have to answer this.
10) Do I need to tame a cow to get Cow Hide?
no. you can use the hide of a wild aurochs and for most things a boar hide or deer hide will also work.
11) How can I capture those elusive winds? For some reason I can't select them even with stormchasing =S.
They are hard to catch. I believe it is the same right click as for moths. Again, get someone to confirm.
12) Why is there no number 6? ;p.

You got embarrased and deleted it maybe? Or you got confused? Or you figured it out while you were still writing this forum post?

What is your Perception at? With 20 perception and 20 exploration you should certainly be able to find some inkweed on grasslands.

4) How can I find myself (I accidentally spawned in wilderness and didn't want to restart when I found I could spawn in a town)?

You could check your immediate surroundings and see if they match this map http://www.maplib.net/map.php?id=6075. If so, you are on the main grid and can navigate easily. Otherwise, and mostly likely, you are on one of the other grids which are not mapped. You are on your own out there.

5) How high agility (roughly) do I need to be able to travel to (the town you can travel to who's name eludes me)?

Depends on how far away you are. Could be the starting 10. Could be much higher.

7) How high Marksmenship (roughly) do I need to kill a level VI fox with a sling (around q12)

Probably more than 40 if you actually have to fight it. Shooting a trapped/glitched fox, or from a boat, you can get away with 10 or 15 marksmanship, if you have patience.

8) Can I remove cobblestone? If so, how?

Yes. Use the "plant grass" option on the cobblestone. It's under the same menu as laying cobblestone.

10) Do I need to tame a cow to get Cow Hide?

No. You could just kill a cow. You can also use a boar or deer hide in any recipe which calls for a cow hide.

11) How can I capture those elusive winds? For some reason I can't select them even with stormchasing =S.

Are you right clicking the winds? They are very hard to click properly, so just keep trying. I wouldn't bother though. It's not really worth it, IMO.

11 right now, my q10+ carrots are coming in soon so that will get me probably 13 or so.

Well, I'm not on the main grid, so assuming I'm just off of it, what level would I need?

Yay ^.^

Yes. Use the "plant grass" option on the cobblestone. It's under the same menu as laying cobblestone.

Good, I was hoping to replant cobblestone as grass so this saves me from double energy cost ^.^

You could just kill a cow. You can also use a boar or deer hide in any recipe which calls for a cow hide.

Woo... wait I still need to get marksmenship to kill those >.< oh well, at least I don't have to tame =D.

Yes =S, the wind blade is the only weapon I can make outside of bows since I can't find a mine D=.

A stone axe does as much or perhaps more damage than a windblade. Now, you can cultivate your winds to higher quality than you can stone (without smelting) but it's a serious pain. Wind chimes decay quickly and you run the risk of the whole thing exploding. Seriously, kerpow.

Don't try to take on a cow, or even a level VI boar/deer, straight up. They will hurt you something bad. You can shoot them from a boat, which is very easy. You can also try to glitch the animal or trap them with construction signs (baskets are good, put one branch in them to prevent them from disappearing).

Aurochs and mouflons don't run away when injured. Just find a boulder near a herd, wall your self in with construction signs, and pelt them with stones until they're all dead.

I had thought of putting walls around myself but dismissed it because if I ran out of ammo I would be hip deep in pain. (or I would have to teleport home) Hadn't thought of using a rock for one of the "walls." Good idea. Better bring some food, just in case.

Yeah, I generally find sling to be a lot more convenient for hunting than a bow. You don't have to do any inventory/equipment juggling, and ammo is everywhere so you only need to keep 5-6 stones in inventory. It may have a bit less damage than bow, but better fire rate more than makes up for it.

Another quick question: what is the point of these ents? (Men made from trees that you can follow)

There isn't a point to them, as far as I know.
