Farming again and again

Postby Omniwar0801 » Sun Apr 11, 2010 11:22 pm

So I have joined a village as their farmer (an upstart sister village)

I was wondering what is a Good number for farming to be a village farmer.

This leads me to the next question. How do i get my seed quality up?

Seed quality rises with farming skill I think. My farming is 6 and I get qualities ranging from 1 to 9, so you could maybe try for 10 or so.

Farming is a soft skill cap like all the other skill caps. Crop q gets modified +-5 each generation if you have enough farming you get to keep the full +5 if you don't it gets averaged (farming + seed q)/2. If you want to increase q you need to select the best seeds and plant just those. Full nature is pretty much required for most crops if you want to have enough seeds to be able to chose enough to replant.

This part I got. Kinda like selective breeding when it comes to cows and what not.

i started with q 3 hemp, 5 farm, and neutral nature/industry

i began to slowly keep the best of each harvest and plant those

i now only keep my q 16+ hemp, im 15 farm, and im full nature

ive done thise with all my crops, which all started very low.. most of them are now 15+

just discard the bad seeds, or put them in a chicken coop or somethin, and keep the highest

Don't put your worst seeds as fodders unless they are around 15+ otherwise the quality of the eggs and the cow will suffer. Also being closer to industry means you have a chance of your harvest producing only one seed which is only enough for replanting that one.

Here is what happens with example.

1. You harvest a q30 carrot patch planted by a q30 carrot a while back.
2. The carrots produce can be 5 units higher or lower than the patch you harvest. In this case, you can have q25-35 carrots.
3. If your skill is lower than the carrots you harvested, then the new quality of the carrot becomes the average of your farming skill and carrot quality. Let's say you only have 10 farming skills and you harvested a carrot patch and got a q26, 30, and 34. (26+10)/2 = 18. (30+10)/2=20 (34+10)/2=22. With a farming of 10, you will have a q18,20, and 22. This is what softcap is.

Hopefully you only got farming and 1-2 other skills to level which lets you focus more on them. How high is depending on the relative skill of the other village and if they are really needing quality farming crops. If the others are behind terms of skills compare to your farming, you can lax it a bit (just don't ignore it completely).
