Get farming as fast as you can. Beforehand, get seeds, MAXIMUM CHANGE and MAXIMUM [s]ARMOR[/s] NATURE. Find carrots from Wild Windsown Weeds, and make your own personal CARROTLAND. You get little to none (1-3) LP from plowing the land, then you get considerably more lp for planting, and a little bit for harvesting. If you have a huge field (and I mean huge), you can grind about 30 thousand learning points from your field. Even without high level tools, it's quite an enjoyable way to become a FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH.
Why carrot?
First of all, it grows fast. And I mean fast.
Second, it gives pure perception, so it can pretty much supplement your hunting skills in future.

A technique someone told me was to chip masses of stones, and pave tiles. Over and over and over and over and over and over.

find a clay field osmeone has claimed over, go to the edge of their claim and dig clay til your inventory is full. Then make tea pots. Rise and repeat until the field is deleveled all the way to 10.

Remember to bring lots of food if you can and something to drink out of ... and that you can harvest ball clay from a boat. If you have a shovel, youll do it twice as fast.

This is as wrong as bucket grinding, and even more likely to get you killed if caught. High level clay is quite the commodity and people don't like their income being screwed with. However, if you're looking to grief your neighbor, this is one good way of doing it. Just don't QQ on the forums when you get plastered across the beach like a toad in front of a runaway wagon..

Assuming THEY aren't on a boat, too.

And no, you don't leave scents unless you attack a player or do something actually on the claim (tresspass, steal, destroy).
