Health - the biggest issue for new players?

Ok I've found my problem and reason for the thread in the first place.

I started in a forest where there arent many things to 'live off'.

I hear grass land is the best bet.

I'm trying to regain HHP too. I have about seven leeches, but when they get fat, I don't see any decrease in SHP or increase in HHP. Do i just keep working at their Quality before I see any real affect?

What you guys really want to do is boost your Exploration and Perception until you can find 4-leafed clovers. You can use those on wild Mouflon to get wool which you can then turn into bandages. Bandages are MUCH more effective than leeches. You just put one on and it continuously heals your HHP. Leeches can hold you off until you can find wool but are a real pain in the ass.

Take off bloated leeches and put then in a container. They'll unbloat after a while, and you can reuse them.
