There are just many combinations of gears, where quality of them plays a great role. You just need to know those combinations. Wiki provides players with mostly wrong info, but i do not share it's administrators ideology, so i do not want to help wiki with info i know. And i think it's better to sell my knowledge, than post it for every noob to use.

Are you positive that moon doesn't influence the catch? Because it did a couple of weeks ago. On full moon I caught eel every cast, and exact same gear and bait caught only perch on a moonless night.

potjeh did you help make the game? :o

mind ya, im another noob, just started a couple days ago with Yolan's help, possibly there may be something wrong with what im doing, but but but...

when i fish, i dont have to be right next to those jumping fishy and i still catch some.
"you cannot swim" red letter warning comes up every time i try to fish where fish are jumping, but if you stay in shallow part of the water, you can still catch some as long as you can see some jumping nearby. at least thats whats happening to me.
(im only catching bream and plaice now, would love to get some different kinds after the recovery from this crash)

Well, i have two-month experience of fishing, and i have to say that moon does not affect eels and sturgeons. I was able to catch them everyday with the same gears, and as well at day-, as at night-time. By the way, they both need almost identical gear combination.

'you cannot swim' that just means that you don't have swimming skill(don't buy it either) and it occurs when you're trying to fish more than 2 tiles away from shallows(cause hearthling tries to swim to that spot).
to Potjeh: there was a moon-sun influencing table on the wiki, too bad i have not saved it. It was pretty accurate in my humble opinion.
edit: ah it is still there: http://havenandhearth.wikia.com/wiki/Fish
pretty useful.

which means, we can still catch fish from where you see fish jumping 2 tiles away, right?
so it doesnt have to be right next to jumping fish. am i correct?
