As far as I understood it from fighting animals, you're getting LP for doing damage. If you break combat however, regardless if the animal runs away or you break combat to stop it from running, you lose all LP you got so far on that animal. So even if you chase it and kill the wounded animal afterwards by starting a new fight, you won't get the full LP for it.

I don't know the exact formulas, but that's it. According to the wiki you'd get 600 base LP for defeating a level X boar. To make the example more realistic we'll add a 360% LP multiplier since I'm assuming you already have that. This means you'd get 2160 LP for defeating a boar. Without breaking combat, that is. Now we're assuming you break combat to stop it from running, catch up and kill it. The LP you're getting now is only a fraction of the total 2160, I'm not entirely sure but it might be equal to the percentage of the HP you take from it. So if you bring it down to 50% HP, break combat and then kill it you'd only get 50% of the LP, which would be only 1080.

That last part is just speculation though since I don't know the exact numbers. Maybe an older member can help you out better there. Fact is that you don't get the full LP if you aggro an animal, damage it, deaggro it and then kill it.

The formula for killing animals is much more complex than a simple % of the damage done in combat. For one thing, multiple people can kill an animal and all get full exp if they've done enough damage to it. I say this because I was recently bear hunting with a villager and they were knocked out by a bear. We had trapped three bears and I injured them all and let the villager KO them. The villager only had to do 200 damage to get near full exp off of two of the kills but the bear which KO'd her gave her only a fraction of the exp despite her doing the same 200 damage to it. She had not been aggro'd or attacked any of the other bears until after I had trapped them and injured them. This leads me to say that, at the very least, there is a penalty to exp for breaking combat to discourage its use in hunting. I am also tempted to say that you only need to do a fraction of the damage to get full exp from an animal kill though it's a bit more difficult to prove this.

Thanks guys that's a big help, LP gained seemed very unpredictable for me and that explains it. By the way, I know there's a warning on the wiki, but is there any way to harvest crops hidden by a house?

Define hidden: As in behind the house but you can still access the tile? Or underneath the house and you can no longer access the tile? If you can access the tile, you just need to position yourself in a way that the game will highlight the crop for you, allowing you to target it and harvest it. That or get the Gilbertus client which lets you just lower things so nothings in the way.

Thanks, I used the Gilbertus client. Whilst I have you do you know how difficult it is to destroy a log cabin with a cellar?
