Ah yes, get enough LP to buy the hunting skill (and all the prerequisites listed), run around until you find either chickens, or a rabbit. Once you see one, left click on it so you walk up as close as possible, and then just right click it to pick it up (the further away you are from it when you right click, the harder it will be to catch). In your inventory you can wring the rabbit/chicken neck and then butcher it to get a bone, a meat, and a hide/feathers.

The game is more talored to however you want to play. Most people tend to spend a while as hermits as they learn how to play the game (and enjoy suviving) before then joining a village or maybe make their own.

I perfer solo aswell, but ingame interaction seems to non-existant, no one chatting or talking

The in game chat is not the best, so people usually don't use it. Try IRC if you want to talk to other players: irc://irc.synirc.net/Haven

I was reading somewhere that you can have the IRC chat right in the client? Also do all newbies start in the same land? If I had my chum play would he start in the same area?

Also I found a nice little area by a stream, not sure what i should now?

I have no clue about the IRC question, but the world is simply massive and chances are your chum wouldn't spawn anywhere remotely close to you. The cause of this is, quite simply, the ladder takes you to a random place. If you stand near your "Hearth Fire" (The fire you start by, with the green flame) and he puts in your "Hearth Secret" (A code you set by clicking the heart on your toolbar and setting it as something) to a specific person in the corner of the start room, his hearth fire would spawn next to yours and he would spawn there also.
