Some other ways that work for beginner LP-drillers are making Querns from stones and partly crafting looms (using just the sticks, and then building only with them.
But if you are going for the long run, then yeah, just farm and hunt (try to do bigger things than rabbits).
Did you know that if you stare at the sun just as it sets, you see a green flash... ...and feel a sharp blow to the head, and hear the faint humming of me driving away in your new Tesla Roadster?
If you have access to acre clay, make earthenware platters. You can just dump them on the floor after crafting them. Good source of LP and environmentally friendly! Also faster than clearcutting a forest, methinks. Of course, playing in any of these methods is extremely boring. If you're still new, it's more fun to just build the things you need and learn new skills as you go along. You'll have plenty of time to grind afterwards.
Making objects purely for the sake of LP is a massive waste of natural resources, and is not well appreciated.
My feeling in this game, is it's best to not worry about gathering LP, just go do things... make a camp, make some stuff you can use, gather food, and you'll gain LP naturally.
