Pretty much this. I don't know why so much hate on melee.

Because 2 arrows, is enough to kill the vast majority of the hearthlands. Thats like 15 seconds no matter how high your MC or UA is.

Well yeah, MM rules them all, but IMO getting UA up is a waste too, you're time is better spent making multiple characters with 400mm and a melee friend to act as your meatshield so your lack of defence isn't an issue. So no, I don't think that melee is inferior to UA.

UA has maneuvers which are pretty sweet and with the formula change UA's lack of strength is a lot less noticeable.

And what I mean to say in my first post was MM and UA, paired together on a character. 300 UA and 300 MM will normally beat a person who put all their LP in MC (plus it'll be quicker for the MM guy to get LP since MM hunting is god-tier).

You cannot always rely on having people around though and with high mms and ua you can tank every melee fighter who isn't really, really experienced in PvP. Your meatshield melee friend is a very dead meatshield if he doesn't have ua as well btw.

UA is the really important stat here, wether you finish with melee or mms isn't that important. Since hunting with mms is better and you can always machine gun fire a bow it makes mms the superior choice though.

Not that all of this hasn't been discussed before... :)

Gonna say this now and get it out of the way so when I'm right in 2 months it can be quoted:

(380)MM+UA+MC(B12+Ranger's Bow)> (380)MM+UA(RBow+Fists)>UA+MC(B12)>MC(Swords)>UA(Fists)

An experienced person with enough practice will be B12>Swords. Swords were(are? to some people) better than B12 only because at the moment with the UI and still some slight lag, micro-ing in battle is a pain and very unpleasant, however with practice and patience you will see that B12 is better. Carrying a B12 with you while having a Ranger's Bow is very impractical and takes away your space for water but... you'll be (as far as 1v1) goes unstoppable. MM is not a big deal because you only have to put 380 into it and the payout in speed of hunting is ridiculous, after that you just dump it all into UA, or UA and MC.

I'd honestly think UA (Fists) stands somewhat of a chance against Swords though, it depends. If either had MM they'd hunt easier and level up faster, they're level there. But if you assume each has 1 in the other's stats (Unfair to MC? UA gains no advantage in 100 MC), UA would still be getting at least 3-4 IP each time if we're talking 1k UA v 1k MC, so despite the extra defense, UA is just pretty much able to danse around MC with maneuvers and I'd say still stands a chance but he'd have to have stupid high STR since his damage is based solely on that pretty much.

Well of course you're gonna get some base UA with your melee, just so you can't be totally raped with manoeuvres. But you don't need all that much to cope.

Yeah you do even with the more recent change. 100 UA is dirt shit these days, enjoy getting raped. You better invest at least half your total melee into it. 1k MC? 500 UA.

My melee is a lot higher than my mms and ua. My mms and ua are still decent, though. Should I try spending points on a different stat instead?

D1 speaks the truth.

Best to focus on MM till like 350, then UA to 350, then MC to 350.

MM first because it'll make hunting insanely fast, then UA so that you can defend yourself, then MC so you can use B12.

After that continue pushing UA and MC equally.
