They don't leave scents, so there's no way to track them either. You could build a palisade and only give your "trusted kin" a key, but then you run the risk of a key being stolen, and your wall suddenly becomes useless.
Until we get trusted kin, there are two ways to deal with that problem - both rather expensive in LP, etc.
Method 1 - build a village, extend its authority to cover all your territory, and get those you trust to join it. The problem is you need 5 characters with yeomanry, 4 bear teeth, and a chunk of effort. Moreover unless the territory is small, you'll need to build chieftain statues (steel) or lots and lots of banners (linen, wrought iron). It will also create a lot of civilization, wrecking the local hunting. This is, however, the "official" method.
Method 2 - Create an alt on a different account, grind it up to the point where it has yeomanry, and enough extra LP for a decent sized claim. Have it kin you and your trusted kin, only. It now claims your territory, you can use it, and you can continue to maintain social contact with others you don't trust. This is faster, and doesn't create a lot of civilization.
p.s. You'll still need a palisade or brick wall, and you'll need the whole wall inside some kind of claim, so that folks trying to chop through it will leave vandalism clues. So you still have the problem of potentially stolen keys. All the above solves is the "trusted kin" problem.
