It's a 50% chance for a neutral nature/industry character. As I pointed out above, two of four trees per day (on average) should be sufficient for many once the initial expensive stuff is built (though not everyone needs their own mine, and cabins aren't an immediate necessity).  Considering smelting ore is "worse" (10% chance of success for a neutral character), tree replanting is less troublesome. And there's no point in watching saplings. Figure out how long they take to grow for your character and come back within eight hours of then.
