Yeah, the chance of getting initiative from missing on animals is 10%, because animals rely on the Dodge maneuver to defend themselves.

The easiest skill to hunt with is Marksmanship. Even just one point in it is enough to hit a cow.

Even the ones with descriptions are not very helpful. I think what the OP needs is just more fleshed-out Wiki entries for the skills, with listings as to what crafts/abilities open up to you.

Yeah! that was what I was talking about...Also marksman is the one for bows right? And How can I kill these pesky level 3 foxes...they're the most fearsome beginner creatures I have ever seen in a game...i'm also wondering out of curiosity, which hunting is most worth it? unarmed, bow, sword, or axe?

Just out of curiosity, why not? Apart from the obvious difficulty in running away.

The Wiki is sorely in need of updating, I can imagine, and a lot of skills have been changed since the 'old guard' originally got them. Keeping accurate track of everything would probably require some of the new guys being rather diligent about what each skill does for them, too.

Finally, the hunting thing is sort of up-for-grabs at the moment. Unarmed is just convenient, axe hits the hardest but requires you to pump unarmed to have any defense (unless you're talking about the stone axe, which is a hilariously poor weapon because it has a pitiful hit rate), and sword/board is a mix between unarmed and the axe (decent dodge, decent damage).

Marksmanship was technically king of the hill for its superb accuracy and the fact that, until recently, there was no pathfinding - you could hide behind a rock and kill bears with no fear of repercussions. Then it was deposed by pathfinding, as its only defense is its range (now reliant on kiting) and has flat damage (instead of being related to STR like melee is). Recently, animals now run away, so having a bow on hand to hit them while they're fleeing can be handy.

Someone else can probably go more in depth, if you need it. I'm only familiar with marksmanship hunting myself.

Your combat capabilities drop like a rock when overstuffed. So things you could normally handle easily are likely to trash your armor, and things that might have trashed your armor normally might instead trash you.

Kill a lot of animals with your bow :P
But seriously, two useful things that I've found to be good LP are tea making and tree planting. I suggest you go for tree planting, because you're bound to run into a tree shortage in a while.

Fill treeplanting pots with clay and water, put in a fir cone and let it sit on a herbalist tables for two hours or so (depends on your nature/industry slider). Then, left-click a sprouted pot to select it and right click where you want to plant (forest terrain, preferably). You'll need a lot of herbalist tables and pots if you want serious LP from this. I plant trees in batches of 16, which gives me roughly 1k LP.

Oh, and please revert to black text. Red is hard on the eyes.
