I have, and some people actually do deserve it for being utterly retarded. In this case, it wasn't warrented.

Do I just stand next to the crucible with the bars in my inventory and wait after it's been lit? I have no idea how to combine my tin/copper but there are no slots in the crucible to put them in so I'm slightly confused! Any info will be greatly apreciated :)

Right click the crucible, then choose to craft bronze in the metal crafting menu with copper and tin bars in your inventory.
