I've been treating it basically as if it has a failure rate. Makes prospecting take longer (I'll prospect the same area a few times), but makes me much more sane. Of course, the ping with no visible pie-slice still drives me batty.

Prospecting in a cave I seem to be getting almost entirely "No minerals" and "bellow you" type messages. The below messages seem localized and consistent tracing out what looks like a vein. No observable benefit to RR quality though as it seems only the spot I'm standing on is being checked, used Extract ranging from 20 to 30. I did get one no-wedge red pulse but I'm at a loss to interpret it.

I believe I read somewhere that prospecting always 'prospects' one layer below you, so if you want to check if there is ore in a cave, you have to be on the ground level and above the cave.

and its till bugged even if you do that. friend of mine prospected a large area, found more or less where the focus should be and hasnt found a thing..... prospecting doesnt work reliably, end of story
