first test the river water, if its higher then 10, see if it Raises the closer you go to land, once you find the direction it raises, build a well in that direction

if the QL of water is raising slowly, it means you can build farther out and still have a chance of finding its peak

if the water is say

40QL 3 tiles from shore

and 42 1 tile from shore,, the water node probably wont be higher then 45, about 10 tiles from shore at max

If the water is 40QL from a half a minimap away, and then its 41 1 tile from shore, you can go a father distance inland to find the peak

the only time you should blindly make wells are when there is no water source for miles

ah ok ya thats good stuff, still wondering how the node is shaped, like is it a big circle node? i found a q 30 well and then about 15 tiles north was a q 10... hmm maybe there random shape? anyone notice what shape they are? Can a water node raise more than 1 point every 5 tiles? so many questions sry hehe :)

The problem with the common way of doing things is that a good quality node completely inland can be missed. Odds are you aren't going to find one this way, but there's always more than a few on a map.
