Using Custom clients is not punished by the devs in any way and does not appear to violate any of their explicit rules. While the concept is iffy and the legitimacy of the actions that these clients do certainly alter how you play the game, you won't get in any trouble for using them. Many let you have a bigger screen, see in the dark, hide objects and terrain, have more hotkey slots, etc. etc..
Sounds similar to custom user interface from World of Warcraft combined with a cheat for an RTS to clear the fog of war.
I'll definitely check it out.
