I've plowed the ground, laid the stone with a 1 tile overlap all the way around the cabin. Nothing is blocking it, my character is not in the way. All I get is

You cannot build that there. Do I have to stomp the ground before I lay stone?

You laid stone all in the area you need, plus the overlap? didn't miss any tiles? I really dunno what's blocking it then, just make sure your character starts out standing well off so he or she will move forward to build, and scan to make sure there aren't any small litter-type objects in the way that you missed...

Not quite sure, but maybe dropped items block its way?
Also, are you on hostile property?
Or perhaps the door would become blocked?

Alright so.. cabin situation was resolved. Got myself a nice little spot.

When I first changed my personal beliefs I modified Tradition / Change towards change. Then whenever I modified towards Peace the Tradition / Change slider would also move. When I moved towards Life both aforementioned sliders also went right.

Are the effect compounded for each step to one side or the other? I don't want the higher lp / skill loss if (when) I die.

Every time you change a belief, you also get more Change. You want to be full Peaceful and full Change. Trust me, you do. 360% LP gain is better than 25% LP gain. More than 14x better.

That is until much later in the game when dying and losing 75% of your stats would make your curl up in the fetal position and cry for a few days.

Having ancestors with really high stats used to be a way to break the game and get q1000+ seeds/metal etc. I don't think most people would mind being able to pray to their ancestors and having +600 to their Str, Melee, and Unarmed for 3 hours. The immediate loss would suck but your net loss isn't bad. Also, this is why you want infrastructure. Life sucks a lot less when you can pick up where you left off and regrow to where you were before twice as fast.

My land claim recently became outlined in blue and has a blueish hue throughout. This happened while I was out exploring. Normally it wouldn't show my land claim unless I chose to view it from the claim marker.

Also is there someway to scroll the screen when extending so you can see how far you are claiming?

On your menu bar, you clicked the little skull totem on the left side. That highlights claims. If you are on your claim, you can walk around on your claimed land without closing the claim window, allowing you to see. You can also use the scrollwindow button on your mouse by holding it down and dragging to move the window around. Ender's client can zoom out.
