Not to mention that a fair amount of people will hunt animals for LP, maybe for some of the specific parts like skin/meat, and leave the skeletons behind. If you explore a bit and can find a deer skeleton for instance, that'd give you enough bone right there.

This is true, also, after awhile you stop needing bone material. After I had a cabinet filled with bone glue and one filled with bear teeth/bones, I sorta stopped bothering to gather the bones on my kills. I'm sure a lot of people do the same thing, so it's free bones to grab.

Given the decreased spawn rates of animals, including rabbits, it's no wonder that he feels the task is daunting. If possible, explore the surrounding area and see if you can't find grassland (really bright green), heath (yellow), or moor (purpleish full of flowers). Chickens and rabbits will spawn there for easy access to bone materials and meat.

EDIT: To people talking about dear corpses. I never saw one before in my travels but I will keep an eye out, I mean a dear corpse cant be that hard to notice.

Took me a while to get going too... I started by just fishing for food so I could explore further distances and teleport back to hearth fire if needed. If you explore enough you will find rabbits, and occasionally even a flock of like 4-6 chickens. It took me quite a while to establish a claim but I used that time to try and improve my skills.

Also, you only need bones material x4 for a claim.

It was a joke. The dude was literally complaining about having to gather bones for a claim stake.

Yeah, and that seems imposing when you first start, and pretty much all you can do is make like a lean-to and a pallet to sleep on!

The world is a wonderful, mysterious, and intimidating place when you first start. It gets easier with every risk you take and every bound you make. Exploring a bit and finding some grassland will open the entire world up to you and make your life so much easier with abundant food, bone material, and some basic furs.

It's not like griefers are as predictable as lightning, but you should expect it to happen again. Hell, if even claimed stuff gets stolen all the time, you can't actually hope not to lose everything by leaving your stuff unclaimed. Well, unless it's all garbage.

Garbage gets stolen and trashed too, just for kicks. Walls and a Claim keep you safe, use them.
