What damage did you do per hit? I do around 50 (just today finally upgraded to a better sling) and so far they never run from me... Ill have to try it with new sling tho. If it makes them run I guess i'll just stick to the old, weaker one.

Not much, I have mm 30 and sling q 30, usually dmg is 50 - 80, third or fourth hit always turn it run. But after that he always come back. I loose him only after punching him to the rage state (he runs faster I guess after that). I punch him for 250, so sometimes I choose perfect time to land Knock his teeth out, but if I do it too soon he runs away and "logs off" :)

As people said you don't need (and shouldn't) trap boars. They run away slowly so you can always catch up to them. If you can't one-shot them with punch yet you may want to use call down the thunder before slinging them so you can one shot them with knock his teeth out and avoid running around for too long.
I can't say about foxes since i find it much easier to kill them using melee since i can kill them with a couple of shots so they never run ( ~70 uc or even better 50+ mc and a good sword).

To answer your question, mm doesn't matter since it only affects aiming speed. What matters for damage is sling or bow and arrow q. With a q30+ wooden bow and q30+ bone arrows you can one shot foxes if im not mistaken but i may very well be.. Its around that number though.

As far as bears fleeing goes, i suspect it has something to do with your uc and mc skills? when i had 20 mm and nothing else they never run from me. As i raised my other combat skills they started running earlier and earlier. It may have just been random though... People say when the bear starts running just get out of the boat and stand still but i find that this way it sometimes looses aggro costing you lp. I get out of the boat and stand still but when its picture turns purple i run a bit towards it so we "connect" again. Then just sling it to death while it sits there.

Yea try using a lower q sling to do less damage. I think it's something to do with the DPS you put on it. I've never had a bear run solo with a q15 sling doing 4-60dmg a shot. But when I had help from someone else, he ran.
