You definitely don't have leather working, you will have an icon saying "leather working" with the Bear cape etc, that means you haven't bought leather working. Buy Animal Husbandry and then Leather Working.

ARGH. I DO have a leatherworking menu!!! It has bear cape and hide cloak and nothing else. Are you saying the presence of the menu means I have bought it or not?

Anyway, once i'm back on I will double check the actual skills and see if if i've purchased it to make sure, i was sure I had but its entirely possible i'm misremembering, in which case, problem solved.

I had this same exact problem when I started out in early W3 and I can assure you with all that I am, that you do NOT possess the Leatherworking skill. Make an alt if you are loathe to believe everybody else who's pointed this out, as your alt will be able to have the Leatherworking tab w/o Leatherworking. Animal Husbandry is a pre-req and has been since at least early World 3. Before the actual skill of Leatherworking, the only options that tab will have is a bear cloak and a hide cloak. Problem solved. Animal Husbandry = 400 LP. Leatherworking = 600.

They're saying that you do not have the Leatheworking -skill-, even though you have the menu. There are some Leatherworking items you can make without the skill, similar to how you can make a spruce-cap under Cloth-making even if you don't have the Clothmaking skill.

The Leatherworking skill is purchased after taking Hunting -. Animal Husbandry -> Leatherworking.

Personally I don't see why someone would need to know how to tame an animal to tan it's leather, it would probably be better suited as a branch off of hunting.
