Nodes are pretty much what Cobalt just said with the slight difference of that they tend to be ovular rather than circular. Higher quality nodes tend to be bigger than lower quality nodes. How high any one node goes to is entirely random. No clue if JLo gave an official speech on it but it's fairly easy to test and measure the size of any given node. Just trace along the q10-11 outskirts of the node and you can get a general idea of their shape.

I'm pretty sure they're circular, and yeah, there's no word of dev but everyone's experience confirms what cobalt says. Go test it if you don't believe me.

While we are on the subject are soil, clay, water, and rock quality tables all different or are some of them linked. I use the term table to say the map with nodes displayed on it. I think I've heard that rock and soil quality tables are linked. As in if you dig on a mountain near a high q soil node, or even on top of it, you'll get high q rocks and it will in turn hurt the node you just dug on. Has anyone observed or spaded this enough to know?

Rock and soil aren't linked, I had a q40 soil node going into a mountain in w3 and I could still only dug up q10 rock from that area. Another mountain had a q60 rock node though but it was too deep in the mountain to see if it was connected to a soil node. The only objects that are linked, from what I hear, are mussels and fish.
