taming a cow

I really don't know. You could try with another one, see if it works.

anyways, after i got bored, i went away, the combat ceased, i then returned to pick some crate ihad left behind, the cow enganges in combat again with me and then yada yada yada and i managed to quell it again.

its tamed. thanks for the replies.

Sounds like that issue was that you didn't wait for it to aggro on you again and you simply re-engaged it in combat right away. If you ever tame again, you'll need to wait for the animal to aggro on its own before building initiative, gaining combat advantage, etc.. to not have an issue with quelling the beast.
