If you want the best 'equity' for your cash shop, you let your players sell the shop items to other players.

even if that bonus has absolutely no value other than cosmetic purposes?

Cosmetic is fine, but I mean in sense of what the OP said. Like "i gif u 100$ yew gib meh 2mil lp kkkk?"

So is communism. Works in theory, sucks in practice.

But you are right, if they give no advantage other than cosmetic, or something flashy / cool then yeah it's awesome. I've yet to see a game that's implemented it like that, though.

League of legends has skins you can buy but nothing that effects gameplay itself.

You can buy IP for real money. IP buys runes. Runes influence game play at high degrees at late levels. ;)

Not to mention buying XP boosts and IP boosts.

You can't buy IP, you can only buy boosts, which then require you actually play to get any benefit. The boosts are fairly minor, and it's -still- not an advantage, players can buy the same stuff with IP earned through games played. Runes are important, but it's not like it's totally impossible to win with a couple generic (HP/mana regen) rune sets earned from normal play...

It's not perfect, but no one in the LoL is whining about it unless they are already horribbbbbbllle players.

*edit* when I say "totally impossible", I was exaggerating; it's quite reasonable to win with better gameplay while using a generic runeset (up to a point, maybe if you're playing in 1800~2000+ ranked games, it will matter more severely.)

Hm. The only time I checked out the "cash shop" part of buying riot points it allowed me to buy IP if I would've wanted.

And ahh, but it is an advantage. Like in so many other games, you can buy stuff you can get by normally playing the game sure. But wouldn't you say if someone could simply buy Learning Points in HnH rather than doing stuff in game to get them it would be an advantage? I would.

And you're right, it's not impossible to win without runes but 5 +2% AS marks, with 5 +1% glyphs, and 5 +1.55% (Forgot the yellow's name) makes a hefty boost, not to mention a tier 3 Quintessence added on that.

Of course no one is whining about it really, considering most people are playing League just until DotA 2.0 is out.

Anyways... Donate button is at the bottom of every page.

Rune sets are largely based on which champions you like to play and how you like to play, my friends are pretty good and they only have 3 rune sets; didn't take them too long to get what they wanted. Once you have 3 core sets (caster, physical dps/jungler, tank) you're pretty set.

Anyways, back on topic, I agree that LP for cash is stupid. This game has permadeaths to make the impact of playing that much stronger, free respawns make death painless. Similarly, getting LP in 1-5 secs of shopping and then roaming around killing people is lame, it ruins the "oh ya, -I- won, this was a direct consequence of my choices, my abilities, and my dedication."

However, cosmetic cash shop would be totally good, as long as you got to keep the skins you buy after you die. The problem with this is people have custom clients anyways, people would probably not even see you had the special skin anyways. It would be nice if you could get a cosmetic item though, like a "donator shield" since the shield doesn't care about quality anyways. It'd just give you a neat looking shield instead of that dinky wooden shield, and people would know you were a contributor to the game. I'd rather players could -not- pick it up if they didn't donate for it, and anyone who donates can unlock the shield permenantly (like, maybe the recipe for making the shield is unlocked, so they can make it any time and with any character on the account).

Wow. Those hollering "No cash shop!!" really need to go back and read over the developer statements. The "Donate" is there to help offset costs of running this.

Also, they're getting paid to create a similar game based on H&H concepts, so why would they change their free one?
