What perception do i need to one-shot killing a fox or a boar? Or is it dependent on my MM?

Depends on the weapon, it's fairly easy to 1-shot a boar with a ranger bow.

You'd need a decent amount of perception for a wooden bow, good q arrows help too. I'd say like 100 PER? I was one-shotting boars once in a while with like 80 and fairly bad arrows.

With a sling? No idea.

IIRC carrots are perception food, but I gain so little from eating them -> and I'm only at 12 perception atm. Any general pointers on how to increase PERC faster?
Also I have found out that killing boars is pretty nice LP, up to 4k per kill. Is there a better/faster way to farm LP, I really don't have much time to spend on this game and using a slow LP gaining technique will literally take weeks to improve my skills to let's say 50.
Thanks

Up your survival, kill bear. People say they are rare, but if you are dedicated, you'll find some. On the plus side, if your perc* expl is high enough you'll get a good amount of lp from foraging while you are looking for bear.

Two things are important here. First off, your survival skill is probably low (10 is fine for rabbit meat, but higher quality string needs 20 survival really). That's bad. Survival increases (up to the maximum possible that is) the quality of A) string you find B) hides/meat you butcher C) meat you cook D) quality of stuff foraged. So survival is good, but only if you know where to find good stuff. Make a map of your area (find it off the big map of the world and zoom in on your area, it takes time but it's worth it) and pinpoint locations where you found good quality stuff. I dig soil samples and write them down. (Soil Q * Survival lvl)/2 = Forage Q. It's how you get better string, and quality 30+ soil isn't that uncommon.

Thing is, perception is useful for low level hunting, but it's not going to make or break your damage output. Raising my dex by 13 points (10->23) increased my minimum damage from 7->15... woopy? I misunderstood the effects of agility on ranged combat, disregard what I said about it if you read it.

Second issue = leather. You say you're hunting boars, that's good. You should have higher than 10 quality skins to work with. But what quality is your tanning tubs? Get the highest level bones you can and make a kick ass bonesaw. Better bonesaw = better logs (up that carpentry skill to help here) = better tanning tub. How about water quality? Hunt the streams with a bucket to see if there's a water node in your area. Do the dirty and haul some barrels of water for your tubs.

TLDR; Up survival to 20 for string. Up your bonesaw quality and carpentry and then make tanning tubs with the best quality boards you can get. Add in higher Q water if you can find any. In the end this should produce a Q20 sling unless you have amazing resources above the stock +20-30 soil/water (unlikely since most of the really good ones are claimed in some way).

Edited in light of revelations on the nature of agility.

Actually, agility doesn't improve your aim rate, the only use for it in ranged combat is decreasing damage from being shot, and animals obviously don't shoot back :P

But yeah, in case you're wondering, the formula for minimum damage is max damage * 1/2 * (shooter perception/target agility), so if you have twice the target's agility worth of perception you'll always hit for max damage. Marksmanship, on the other hand, is the only thing that improves your aim speed, but it's capped at 2x your weapon q (3x for ranger bow) or 2x your arrow q, whichever is higher (stones don't cap aim speed, only arrows do). Max damage depends on weapon q alone.

So if you want to one shot animals you'll need a good bow and high perception, but given all the inventory juggling you'll have to do (quiver takes backpack slot), I reckon hunting wih sling would still be faster, even if it takes several shots to kill an animal.

it seems that following this little format that i discovered will help you be a better hunter using sling to hunt smaller games, specially boars, for their tusk and skin primarily. this can be achieve in this skill sets

Perception at 15~20
Marksman at 30 and Up(The higher it it the faster it shoots)
Relative high quality sling(15 and up is optimal for a fox)

those skills are whats needed for a fox hunt, maybe a boar too but it takes more hits.

if you want to play hermit hunter then do a sea kill. stay on the sea and aim then shoot. but if you have an alternate account, trap the fox while unagressive, do this by agro-ing the fox to the hunter, then when on the edge of the sea, use your alt as a post. regular post can be broken by foxes so a player will be better, after all, the fox is already agro at your hunter, so the alt will be safe. i cant say for sure if it works on both boar and bears, since those 2 games are hostile in nature.

this is the best setup i learnt for an early leather/meat gathering.
