Does no one besides myself enjoy the prospect of starvation being a legitimate concern? I thought it was so thrilling as newbie to be desperate to find your next meal and constantly searching for new food sources. I suppose everyone just fears death and death by starvation isn't exactly a glorious death. I must say I was quite angry at toads though when they wouldn't let me eat them. The rats and ants were cool with it but not the toads. Selfish jerks.

We're ( 10+ ppl now) on an Island too - but one day we saw people on the other river side with boat - i asked them to trade for a boat...after a while he came over and started to build a boat and let me finish - i traded some low q Cone Cows and Ball Clay for it...

so watch for ppl with boats :-)

Thank you Thomas! Hope you have a good place found.

+1 agree. The fact that completely new people in a completely new WORLD are having to eat taproot just to survive seems right to me.

On the other hand, noobs really are absolutely screwed now. It was easy to stumble upon how to gain LP through actions, but figuring out how to make a cone cow from the dozens of menus and guess where to put it is impossible. You NEED a wiki or a friend.

This has always been true for this game though, much like dwarf fortress or mine craft, so that's not surprising.

best advice I can give is go high explo, get some nettle clothing to jump survival to about 10 and then look around for good water to tan hides to make a sling and maybe hunt a bear or boar to make an even better sling

Wait a second you can kill a boar or a bear with just a sling? How on earth? Wouldn't you need massive marksmanship?

I was under the impression that the old signpost method doesn't work any more as beasts break through them when caged in

Edit: I'm just some W4 noob who never did anything besides punch ants and browse the wiki, so hunting is a mystery to me

Low marksmanship just means it'll take longer. You can kill anything but deer (buggers heal themselves too fast) with q10 sling and 10 marksmanship. Just stay in the boat, far enough from shore.

Been able to solo deer with 10 UA and leadership. Takes a few minutes and having a 2nd or 3rd person helps so much, but it's entirely possible.
