Thanks for the help.

I guess I'll either trade for ore or trade for specific metal items in future.

Build a crucible, put them in, take them out again. Might not work but it seems like the discovery system works that way. Not sure if it's intended behaviour even if it does.

Smelter. Can't put things in a crucible.

Only problem is you can't put bars in a smelter, only ore.

Edit; you could trade for cast bars, make a finery forge, try to make a single thing of wrought iron for the bar. Tada. Access to nugget making recipe. Make wrought into nuggets, access to bar recipe. Turn cast nuggets into bars. Profit.

This would work if the person has a hammer and anvil already. Otherwise, you just get slag or bloom out of a finery forge that needs to be worked on an anvil with the hammer.

If you got bars and need to discover the recipes you can craft nuggets using a crucible and then bars from the nuggets. You have to discover 1 type of metal first but you can unlock the rest in this way.

This seems a rather nasty side effect of the otherwise grand new LP system.
It looks to me, as if this means that the gap between people with metal, and people without metal just grew exponentially.

Basically it comes down to: trading for metal is now pretty useless, until you get some village crazy enough to let you in to use their mine, and their forge, just to learn the recipes nescessary to actually use the metal you buy.
As if any village in their right mind would allow that?

So, until you either are lucky enough to find some ore yourself, this means: No cellar, no decent cheese, no meatgrinder, no brickwalls, and possibly no lotsa other crap thet I forgot.

Before, you could just work your ass off gathering chantarelles and cavebulbs, to trade for the oh-so needed metal; you can now work your ass off gathering chantarelles and cavebulbs, to find out the metal you traded for is useless, because you cannot make anything from it.

Please, Jorb, Loftar, could you consider making a small change to mechanics that will make it possible to unlock the metal recipes from bought metal bars?

As has been suggested elsewhere, trade ore. Say 10 ore mined at neutral for 1 bar or 5 ore mined at full industry for 1 bar.
