Dryads also heal animals. If the animal gets healed and doesn't break combat, it will not re-engage in combat but it will go back to you and stand infront of you.

boars do indeed turn around and hit you back sometimes since some late changes (jorb's post about disengaging combat) were made.
i am not sure when they decide to turn around, but they seem to when they "think" they can get you.

before → now
once boar started to run, they ran till they could drop the combat. → they sometimes stop running and turn back to attack you.
(i sling a boar till it starts running, i get off my boat and it comes back to me, i get on my boat and hit it again, it starts running again but comes back as soon as i get off my boat. so i just repeat this to kill it instead of trying to chase with a punch which is a greater risk for me.)

when you were in a certain range with the animal, you kept the combat mode unless you drop it. → they often drop combat even within the range after you stop attacking for a while (like when you are chipping stones to get more stones.)

might be related to the average damage you have been doing to the animal and high lvl hunters may not have seen the difference. (like bears never run away from low ql slings)
but doesnt seem like it is related to the total damage/their HP. (a boar did come back at very low HP when it saw me off the boat.)

I believe in that topic he was only mentioning the fact that you no longer lose LP when you lose agro on an animal because they don't give LP from a kill any more.

He even said it here.

my bad english.
i do not know when the late changes happened. i played the first day of w5 and stopped playing for a while for personal reasons and was only reading forums. i recently restarted. i had let my friend do most hunting in w4. so i have no idea if the changes were made when w5 started or afterwards/beforehand. (thats why i said "late changes" instead of any particular period.)
i mentioned jorb's post since ppl did talk about boars new(?) behaviors in there as well.

p.s.
i probably should have said "jorb's thread" instead of "jorb's post"... my bad.
