You can still play "that game" and be completely ignorant of the effects of quality on your life if you really want to. Leave the math to the people who enjoy it if it's not your thing. I obsessively quality whore for my group, as a result they don't have to. There's much chiding and there will be the occasional annoyance if I want to build the umptieth kiln because I got clay that was +2q over our last kiln, but meh. In the end we get along.
