A mine is just like a cave. Absolutely nothing is different.
Yes, it's a must for protection from raiders. If you have access to iron, build a brick wall. (Too bad there isn't a 'stone wall'.
)You see those green circles? That's the client (Ender's) showing the raidus the mine support is effective for.
If you want to really prevent raiders, get disposable alts and destroy any unnecessary mine supports. Raiders trying to tunnel in will cause cave ins.
