I would also like to set up a barter stand on my claim (gonna be pumping out q80 straw dolls like nothing).

That would work. As long as the center of the stand is on the claim (hold shift when placing it to take it off the grid) it will be claimed. But since you need no special privileges to interact with it someone standing outside the claim would be able to trade with it.

And anyone can walk on a claim *without any* black skills. It requires that you turn criminal acts on to do, and you will leave a trespassing scent (which is nigh on harmless, I've never heard of anyone bothering with them and you can't be summoned for it). That being said, I don't disagree with allowing a claim option that lets randoms wander through without leaving trespass scents. There's probably a coding issue there though. Trespassing (walking on) and trespassing (looking in stuff) are the same allowance. So unless you're ok with people wandering in your buildings and eyeing up your items without leaving a scent it wouldn't work at all.

Well, my specific use is double-gated. There's an open paved area by the river, allowing for loading and unloading of boats and carts. Then there's a palisade, which houses the various trade stands, then there's another palisade which houses the boathouse (mostly a place to store boats and adventuring supplies). So, I can open the trade gate, and let people use the stands, without letting them into the boathouse proper, thus no eyeing up my stuff.

Sadly, though, this seems troublesome at best...

Stands have special rules for ownership:
The player who first puts an item into the stand is the owner of the stand, regardless of claims, until the stand is emptied. Please note, however, that, if the stand is on a claimed area (village or personal claim), anyone with appropriate privileges (A village member, or the claim owner) can take stuff from the stand without paying. If the stand is not on a claim, anyone can take stuff from the stand (without black skills). You'll want to build the object on claimed land. The only difference, between the stand and normal objects, in terms of ownership, is that you can interact with the stand even though you normally lack privileges in the claimed area in question (As is also the case with, for example, runestones).

it was updated...

EDIT: The Vending Stands, as of now, have their own rules of ownership. If someone has put items for sale in a stand, anyone else taking them will always count as theft, regardlessly of whether the stand is built on claimed land.

Ah, so, if I don't claim the vending area then it will be open for trade, correct?

Seems that way, make sure not to empty them entirely though or other people could start using them if they're on unclaimed land XD

I'll have to test this by un-kinning a buddy and seeing what happens. If it leaves scents for theft, then rock on. If not, then I'll have to rethink my trade dock a little...
