Sorry, forgot to mention that one. I'm positive it's not fish either, since I've picked them multiple times beside a Q20 fish node and gotten Q10 mussels. And there's an area where I know there is no fish node that produces Q20+ mussels.

are you sure your survival lvl was high enough when you picked q10 mussels from q20 fish node?
im not sure on w4 and w5, but at least on w3 i remember getting the same quality mussels/grey clay as fish quality from the same spot.

since fish spawn changes for w5, it is possible that the nodes for fish and foraging are split and they got different nodes for each, maybe.

My survival is 75, pretty sure it's good enough. And I'm really positive that it's split at least in this world. Gray clay is off clay node (confirmed), mussel Q is independent of fish node (I've been in this area for at least a week, and we're the active fishers in the area. I know the area with the Q20 mussels has no fish node), and it's independent of soil Q.

My best guess is that they have their own node system.

When you say no fish node, do you mean Q10 fish or no fish jumping out of the water? No fish jumping out of the water doesn't mean there isn't a fish node there, it's just a fish node you have no access to. Kind of like a clay node that's on a grassland -- it's still a clay node, you just can never dig clay from it or discover it.

As for your fish node having low quality mussels, how far is the shore from the q20 location? Quality can drop rapidly over just a few tiles.

The Q20 fish 2 tiles from the lake shallows. And for the area with the Q20 mussels, it's a lake again. Q20 at that location would easily give room for jumping fish and accessible node area to fish. We're the only major fishers, so I know it's not just an issue of the node being fished out. If we don't fish, fish nodes replenish everywhere.

Considering fish nodes are circular, mussel Q can't be dependent on fish Q according to these observations.

It is indeed odd that you're not getting q10 mussels at a q20 fish node then. As for the fish jumping out, they don't need to be on a node to do this and a node doesn't guarantee they'll do this. Space is irrelevant, it's a random spawn and overlap is equally random, much like clay spots and actual clay nodes.
I have no explanation for why you're getting q10 mussels.

I would really disagree with the fish jumping thing. I've been studying it for a while now and I've found some interesting things:

-Fish always jump on an active node, but there's a hefty random involved. It may take 5 minutes before you actually see any jump on any given view of the node.
-When fish nodes are fished out, they continue to jump for 1-2 hours

If you consider the lag it takes for fish to stop jumping, you could consider that the fishing node may become "live" and have a 1-2 hour delay before they start jumping. I could see how people might think this leads to fish jumping being random and not node related. The jumping fish in my area have always mapped out the max Q of a fish node perfectly. Of course as you fish it the actual fish node shrinks well before the jumping fish do.

I dont know where the derp is, but mussels Q = fish Q . Also, it can drop on a srs bznz style. I have a lake close to me that drops q25ish fishes and 7-10 tiles away I get q10 mussels.
