But there's a total of 7x7 clear area around all of the trees before they hit a square containing a tree. I'm assuming that it calculates the hitbox thing off the center of an object and not the edge and that tree growth spaces don't interefer with each other.

There's only 3 tiles in between planted sprouts in that image.

3 x 2 + 1 = 7

3 for the spaces either side of the tree. 2 for both sides of the trees. 1 for the tile the tree is in itself.

it calculates from the outer edge of the hitbox, and those can go over into the next grid, either becaues they are large or because you miss the center of a grid box (verify?) that is why its a good idea to have one extra tile between them, so you have three insted of two.

And you keep the rows staggerd like you see here, to avoid the logs getting caught in the tree e of them

Fir trees actually spill over from their grid into the ones nearby. This would be why you need 3 spaces in all directions then.

Ok I have my tree farm running, and it seems there is a problem.
Trees seem to be stunned, or they are each in the center of a 5x5 box.
Each tree have 2 boxes all around it to grow, and it seems that the last stage of growth doesn't appear...
I attached a screen.
Am I doing zrong, or do I need to wait more ? I planted the first ones (;ulberry, maple and apple) something ! week ago more or less.

Thanks again.

Everything looks good to me.

If you plant them on their native terrain, they should grow just fine. They have to wait on a decay tick before going from the final stage to maturity, though.

If they are on non-native terrain, they just flat take longer to grow up. Since there is no mini-map, we can't tell what kind of forest they are on.

Observe the birch bark stumps in the background which tells you it's that kind of forest. So it should grow fine.

Yep, I was never nominated for the Mr. Obvious award. However, as deforested it is, those birch stumps could be just on the other side of a dividing line.

One more thing: mulberry trees take forever to get that decay hit for the last stage of growth because they're hitbox is so small. I just start picking mulberries as soon as it produces and use those to get the next generation started. You can do the same with the rest, too, as soon as they start producing seeds.
