Hate to have to ask another question, but I've got a fox trapped and I'm currently sitting in a boat with lots of stones.

This little meter that pops up when I use my sling, it's charging very slowly, how far up should I have it before I shoot?

The bar is essentially a percentage chance to hit, the higher the better. About half way is usually good. The closer you are to the animal, the faster you aim. Your Marksmanship and weapon quality matter here. The higher your marksmanship, the faster you aim but it's capped at 2x your weapon quality.

While we're here, was never too sure, but is that bar only a percentage to hit? It has nothing to do with damage whatsoever?

You are correct sir. Your minimum damage is linked to your perception but besides that it is random between your minimum and your maximum (which is based on your weapon quality.)

So if I'm trapping a fox and using a boat, it's best to have my boat as close as I can to the fox and shoot when my meter is as high as I can get it?

Also,how do I know if I've hit/damaged the fox?

I used up about 14 stones and I didn't see anything interesting happen before I messed up again.

if you hit it you will see little numbers pop up above the fox shoving how much dmg you did. What is your marksmanship and sling q ?

Get as close as you can without fox reaching you. Fox can destroy your boat (you will hear a cracking sound if it starts breaking your boat). You will see a red number above it's head if you successfully hit it.

I think the server is crashed, I can't check.

But my marskman is like 5, I have about 7k LP though. And my sling is like quality 7 or 9.

Is that like, terrible terrible?

your marksmanship is pretty low there, you will miss a lot and it will take you forever to kill it. Raise it up to double your sling quality and the aim bar will go up much faster and you will be able to hit more often. Try to make a better sling though, raise survival to find better string and leather.

edit: its not very good but I was able to kill my first fox with 10 marksmanship and sling q 6, it did take like an hour though

With Marksmanship 20 and sling q of 10 you would be able to kill foxes pretty fast.
