Yes. You're not nearly as remote as you think.

So I understand the importance of quality for stuff like weapons, armour, food, etc, but what about buildings, containers, and furniture? Does quality affect those? If so, how?

It only matters for buildings and liftable objects that process stuff, ie kilns, ovens, cauldrons, grinders, herbalist tables etc. Their quality influences the quality of the items they produce.

Ok. Sounds fair.

Any etiquette I should be aware of?

How many people play this game?

The only etiquette I can think of is the Golden Rule. Take that how you like to read it. It seems that everyone has their own Golden Rule, so just be aware that how you play isn't how someone else is going to play. Just remember that Karma is a bitch.

You can always check the home page to see how many people are logged in (or if the server has crashed). From my experience with other MMOs, I'd guess there's between 1500-2000 active players. However, that could be off as some people like to bot.

For the new players:

Coniferous forests have no fruit trees, so all you're stuck with is forageables. Deciduous forests at least have apples, mulberries, and nuts to feed on if you can't find anything else.

However, in my opinion, if you put several points into exploration to start and use one of the custom clients like Ender's, you're going to have so much food, no matter where you settle, you'll find yourself needing to work in order to eat it all.

Well now with discoveries it can make even less desirable though after you get a boat it becomes less of a problem.

Very true. I've not seen any one forest type that covers enough land that 5-10 minutes of walking won't take you to another type, though. There is a trade off, though. The best newbie curio can't be crafted without fir trees.

Do the branches/boughs/cones/bark on trees regenerate?
