Deer are easy. Punch them to death. You'll need ~10 Unarmed, Call Down the Thunder, Knock His Teeth Out, Punch, Charge!, and Opportunity Knocks. Find some safe shallow water and start Calling down the Thunder. Pull one deer away from the group so that they can't heal it.

Get 26 Initiative. Opportunity Knocks, let the deer twitch, Knocks, twitch, Knocks, twitch, Knock, Knock his teeth out.
The deer will now run away. Wait a second and set up a signpost trap. It'll heal itself and engage you in melee but won't attack you anymore. Stay in close quarters with it and close the trap around it so it can't flee.

Charge! to 70 initiative, Opportunity Knocks x4, Punch, wait. Let it expend its heal. (Flex! x5, Knock x1, Knock his Teeth out,) REPEAT THIS TWO-THREE TIMES. It will then be dead.

I killed a deer with 40MM and a q30 sling; it's not as hard as people make it out to be.

Seriously. It takes 3, maybe 4 shots if they heal themselves once. Any newbie should be able to get off 4 or 5 shots in the time it takes them to heal themselves twice.

A good idea, but I've seen deer break down objects trying to flee. I have noticed that they won't break boulders, if you have boulders from digging out a cellar. (This of course requires hardened metals.)

Reduce the size of your trap then. The animal won't even attempt to path fleeing if the area is small enough. It's not like you're in any danger, since it's pacified anyway, so you have the time to meticulously sit there making a trap that gives you a 3x3 fighting space.
