I just need anothr little clarification about mine holes:
can I mine in the vicinities of the mine hole entrance without getting killed? (I mean, without snake holes)
also: can I dig my mine hole with just a stone axe?

Only if you are not standing on a mined tiled. Even then, I recommend using supports for layer 2 and below as cave-ins tend to be quite deadly. (lvl 3 cave-in killed my friend dealing 200 HHP).

Yes as long as you have sufficient strength and your stone axe is of good quality. The further down you go, the more strength and the better digging tool you need (in terms of quality).
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.
