If I was you I would explore the cave tunnels more and every now and then mine the wall for ore, If its just stone... then try a different spot, there is bound to be ore in the cave somewhere.


does this mean that everytime i dig in a new wall and stones start appearing next to my feet I can interrupt my digging before the wall's done for good?

Yeah if you just click away I guess, but it depends how hard the wall is.

Caves have stone quality nodes (this is how ore quality is determined). Pick up the stones you find every once in a while. You might get a nice surprise and get a better stone axe out of it.
